FOUNDER PROFILE
FOUNDER
WACHA PRODUCER / HANAYO KATO
Influenced by her grandfather, the Raku tea bowl potter “Hana-Senjin,” she has been exploring and deepening her knowledge of the tea ceremony with the question, “What is the tea ceremony for the modern man?” with this question in mind, she has been striving to explore and deepen her knowledge of the tea ceremony.
After graduating from the School of International Liberal Studies at Waseda University, she gained experience at a major Japanese electronics manufacturer, focusing on the marketing area, and was involved in brand strategy and new business launches. Originally health-conscious, she had a deep interest in medicinal herbs such as tea leaves and herbs, and after the Corona disaster, she sympathized with the concept of “mibyo” (pre-disease) and became a certified Japanese herbal medicine instructor.
Using her experience and knowledge, she has devised and developed matcha tea and health-oriented wagashi (Japanese confectionery) that are close to the lifestyles of modern people. She also exhibited at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), utilizing a tea ceremony robot, and realized a fusion of traditional culture and technology through an innovative approach.
By simplifying the tea ceremony and offering it as an experience that anyone can easily enjoy, her mission is to convey the appeal of Japanese culture to a wider audience and contribute to the inheritance and development of traditional culture.
